PULSE TUBE COOLERS

TECHNISCHE UNIVERSITEIT EINDHOVEN: PULSE-TUBE COOLER.

SHI's 10K cryocooler technology powers its product range of shield coolers Pulse Tube. Sumitomo Heavy Industries has expanded their product line yet again with the addition of a two-stage pulse tube cooler. Oxford Instruments offers two types (single stage and two-stage) of Pulse tube coolers with separated rotary valve. Stirling and Pulse-tube Cryo-coolers [Allan J. Having no moving parts in the cold, the pulse tube cold finger has a very low vibration and magnetic noise. The GIFTS instrument uses a two-stage Lockheed Martin pulse tube cooler to cool the spectrometer’s focal plane to 55K and the optics to 140K. This cooler was originally designed by VeriCold Technologies which is now an Oxford Instruments company. In an advanced stage of development both - GM and Stirling derivatives, have cold heads without any moving parts. Already one company, Iwatani (which the panel did not visit), is selling a pulse-tube cooler. Figure 7.1 shows a copy of Iwatani's advertising literature.

ESA - THERMAL CONTROL - STIRLING AND PULSE TUBE COOLERS.

Pulse-tube refrigerators are attractive since they produce cooling with a compressor at room temperature, as usual, but without moving parts at low temperatures. Janis Research offers model PT-950-FTIR low vibration pulse tube refrigerator for Fourier Transform Infra-Red spectroscopy. Dual opposed linear motors are used on all our Linear Stirling and Pulse Tube coolers in order to minimize compressor vibrations and acoustic noise levels. The Cryo-Pulse 5 Plus controllers are backwards compatible with the previous Cryo-Pulse 5 model coldheads. Rawlings, “Gamm-ray pulse tube cooler development and testing, Cryocoolers 11, Plenum Press, New York, in press. PT553 is a mini split cryogenic cooler based on Pulse Tube technology. The compressor is a linear double piston.
